The North Carolina National Guard recognizes the uncertainty surrounding the
current government shutdown and the impact on you and your families. It is not lost on
me the gravity of the situation and this is why we are committed to providing you with
the most up-to-date information as it is made available. I want to personally thank you
for your continued commitment to service, building readiness, and upholding the highest
standards, despite potential financial difficulties.
There are support systems in place to assist if you or your family are experiencing
hardships. Do not hesitate to reach out to your chain of command, Family Programs
Office, or local support services, some are listed below.
- Federal Employee Education and Assistance Fund (FEEA): Offers no-fee,
no-interest loans for emergency hardship. https://feea.org - Military Aid Societies: The Air Force Aid Society and Army Emergency Relief

command/and Full-Time Soldier and Family Readiness Specialist for grant

Provides emergency assistance. Thanksgiving food boxes will be prepared and available the week of Thanksgiving. NCNG Soldiers and Airmen can go to whichever Crisis Ministry location is closest to where they currently live in Asheville, no intake required, anytime between 8:30 and 4:30.

Join Soldiers’ Angels for their market-style food pantry in Salisbury to support low-income Service Members and Veterans. You’ll find fresh produce, meats, and other food items, and you’ll personally shop and select the items that meet the needs of your family. If your family needs food assistance, please join them for this event!

USDA Food and Nutrition Service provides around 1.1 million veterans with food assistance each year through SNAP, WIC and food distribution programs. Veterans in need of emergency food assistance must apply online or at their local office. You can search and get more information on each of the specific services on the FNS's state contact page.
