Brigadier General Morrison has served in the NC Army National Guard for over 28 years. He enlisted in February of 1994 as a member of the 130th Military History Detachment as a Private. Commissioned in 1997 from the North Carolina Military Academy OCS program, he initially served as an Adjutant General Corps Officer with the 217th Personnel Services Battalion and then branch transferred to the Infantry in January of 2000 where he has spent the past 23 years of his career. He has over twenty years of assignments all within the 30th Armored Brigade Combat Team, Old Hickory, to include the 1st Battalion, 119th Infantry; 1st Battalion, 120th Infantry, 230th Brigade Support Battalion and Headquarters, 30th Armored Brigade Combat Team. Brigadier General Morrison commanded Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 120th Infantry in Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2003-2005 and served as the Battalion Executive Officer for 1st Battalion, 120th Infantry in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2009. He commanded 1st Battalion, 120th Infantry from 2012-2014 and was subsequently assigned as Executive Officer, 30th Armored Brigade Combat Team from 2014-2016.
BG Morrison has also served in numerous key positions with the North Carolina National Guard to include Deputy J5, G3 and Chief of Staff from 2018 to 2020.
On December 1, 2020, Colonel Morrison assumed command of the 30th Armored Brigade Combat Team. On January 1, 2023, he was reassigned as Deputy Director, G3/5/7, Headquarters, Department of the Army with duty at the Pentagon.
BG Morrison is the author of several professional articles in Infantry, Armor, and Army History Magazines.
BG Morrison, a graduate of UNC Asheville, holds a Master’s Degree in Military Studies from American Military University and is a 2016 graduate of the US Army War College. He resides with his wife Xena and three children, Isabella, Sophia and Patrick in Goldsboro, NC.
