Brig. Gen. Stephen J. Mallette is the Assistant Adjutant General for Air, North Carolina National Guard and Commander, North Carolina Air National Guard. As Assistant Adjutant General for Air, he is the primary advisor to the Adjutant General on all programs, strategic planning and operations affecting the North Carolina Air National Guard. As the Commander, North Carolina Air National Guard, he has command and control responsibility of more than 1,400 personnel in 23 units. General Mallette enlisted in the United States Army in 1982 as an Air Traffic Control Tower Operator. He joined the North Carolina Air National Guard in August 1986, as a C-130 Loadmaster. He received his commission 1991 from the Academy of Military Science, Knoxville, Tennessee. He went on to attend Undergraduate Pilot Training at Columbus Air Force Base (AFB), Mississippi. General Mallette has served in numerous capacities including Deputy Commander of the 145th Combat Operations Group, Commander of the 145th Operations Support Squadron, Maintenance Group Commander and the North Carolina National Guard’s Director of Staff. He has deployed in support of Operations FREEDOMS SENTINEL, INHERENT RESOLVE, ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, SOUTHERN WATCH, JOINT FORGE, and CORONET OAK
